You may ask, is club volleyball a mandatory part of being recruited?  Perhaps not mandatory, but you definitely give yourself a much better chance of being recruited if you play club ball because a majority of volleyball coaches actively recruit during the club season.

Why?  Because the collegiate volleyball season parallels the high school volleyball season and the coaches can’t get to the high school games to evaluate and recruit.

2.  A highlight video is crucial to your recruiting success.  Regardless if you have it created by professionals or have someone you know produce it, be sure to check out our how to make a highlight video post for helpful tips to get the biggest bang for your buck.

What should you include?  It depends on what type of film you are sending.  Game films should include your best play first, don’t wait to get the coaches attention.  Highlights of your various games will get the coaches attention, however it is the game footage that they really need to see in order to evaluate your skill level.

3.  You will also want to create a skills video that shows how proficient you are at certain skills.

Serving Skills: Demonstrate your accuracy of serves by determining the location prior to serving.  You will also want to demonstrate your ability to make different serves (floater and jump serve) .  If serving is not your strong suit, then don’t include it.

Volleyball Setting Skills: Simply show how you can set and position the ball for the optimum ball play.

Volleyball Hitting Skills: Demonstrate your ability to hit the ball from the outside, the low middle, high back sets,  back row sets, hitting the overpass, hitting high hands and off speed and spinning shots such as tips, slams and roll shots

Volleyball Blocking Skills: You want to demonstrate you jumping ability, good footwork and the ability to block all kinds of shots.

Volleyball Passing Skills:  show how you respond to hard spinner serves, floater serves as well as the ability to dig a ball that has some speed on it.

Don’t send a highlight film until you have heard from a coach.  Send your profile and if you don’t hear anything within a couple of weeks, contact them by phone.

Remember, the competition is simply too tough to sit back and wait for a coach to contact you. You must recruit the coach.  Unless you are one of the very elite players in the country, the coaches have no way of knowing who you are until you show up on their radar via your efforts in sending them your recruiting profile.
